Advanced Search Syntax
Dialog offers an advanced search syntax, allowing the use of the following search functions:
- Boolean operators: AND, OR, NOT
- Proximity operators: PRE/# (or p/#), NEAR/# (or n/#)
- Truncation: left, right and internal (* or ?)
In addition, Dialog provides users with three levels of search functionality, from basic search to a command line interface. The INPADOC/Family and Legal Status database is produced by the European Patent Office (EPO) and describes patents issued by 101 countries and patenting organisations. The International Patent Documentation Center (INPADOC) was formed in 1972 with the support of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) to provide a centralised bibliographic source for patent documents. INPADOC is now part of the European Patent Documentation System operated by the European Patent Office (EPO).
TULSA™ (Petroleum Abstracts) provides bibliographic citations to scientific articles, patents, meeting papers, and government reports of interest to geologists, geophysicists, petroleum engineers, and other technical professionals and managers in the oil and gas exploration and production industry.
MEDLINE is the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM) premier bibliographic database. It contains references to journal articles in life sciences with a concentration on biomedicine and health. This is broadly defined to encompass those areas of the life sciences, behavioral sciences, chemical sciences, and bioengineering needed by health professionals and others engaged in basic research and clinical care, public health, health policy development, or related educational activities.
ProQuest Newsstand Professional is a collection of leading newspapers and wire services with geographic reach throughout the United States and around the world. Many titles are in full text, with in-depth coverage of each issue, with a browseable index for companies, industries, people and geographies. Everything from business activity to current events, and from economic conditions to obituaries is included in this comprehensive news resource.
